Yuletide Letter 2019 ♥

Dear Yuletide Writer,

First off, I'm very sorry for being tardy on getting this letter up. Work has been eating me alive and then my wifi at home had the nerve to collapse, gurgle, and die on me. But thanks for being so patient with me, a Mess of a Human Being. *insert prayer hands emoji*

When it comes to fic, the optional details below are optional. I will be extremely happy with anything you write that has my requested characters in it. ♥♥♥ But if you'd like more detail, I can tell you that I don't have any major triggers, and I'm open to liking any genre, style, or level of sexual explicitness.

A laundry list of tropes I love: pining (I love pining so much), slow burn, dorks, distinctive narrative voices, ridiculous plots and tropes, anything that can make me laugh, anything that can make me cry, hopeful endings, open endings, genre subversions, friendship, teams, separation and reunion, characters being passionate about really niche interests, good people trying to be good even when it's hard, not-so-good people trying to be good when it's even harder, waking up together, time travel.

Yuletide Letter 2018 ♥

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you very much for writing something for me! It's been kind of a tradition for me to throw this letter up last minute, for which I am properly apologetic - i am the woooorst, I'm sorry. Below are some details about things I quite enjoy in fics, and some more discussion of the fandoms that I requested, but optional details are always optional. I'm not the greatest at coming up with specific prompts, unfortunately - I often only have a vague sense of what I'd like. But the plus side is i am genuinely very easy to please and ultimately if you enjoy writing something then I will be beyond happy to read it. I hope Yuletide is a fun, low-stress event for you this year!

I do not have any major squicks or triggers, and I'm open to liking any genre, style, or level of sexual explicitness. My favourite things to read are humour and detailed, plotty stuff. A genre I am less likely to seek out is hurt/comfort, and these days I don't read AUs as much as I used to (with the exception of canon divergence AUs). But with that said I am not anti h/c or AU at all, have definitely written many myself, and would likely enjoy a fic written for me in those genres.

The December issue of Shousetsu Bang*Bang is probably my favourite issue because 1) it comes right at the time of the year when I get the urge to read something heavy and meaty and awesome, and 2) so many talented writers contribute to it! New SSBB issue out!

L-L-L-LADIES. ♫

It's spring-time, and you know what that means. SSBB has their annual f/f issue out, which you should never walk to but rather sprint to as if your life depends on it (because it's true: I find my life a sad and bereft place without a regular dose of awesome queer women). Anyway, I have a story in this issue, illustrated by the effing fantastic beili. This is the sort of story where you can see why I would never make it as a mystery writer. I do, however, hope to have a full and fulfilling career as a professional pastry-eater.

New Year's! Yuletide reveals! I spent most of the night being sick and hacking into my kleenex while watching Gravity Falls, because that devilish fandom pusher sorrynotsorry told me to (watch Gravity Falls, that is, not the hacking part. That would be mighty devilish).

For Yuletide, I wrote two fics for two lovely recipients:

Tigers Tonight for rethira (Persona 3, Akihiko/Shinjiro). aka Akihiko is pretty when he's sad, and Shinjiro is tired of putting up with it.

Turn the Clock Upside Down for sumeria (Princess Tutu, Ahiru/Fakir). aka I couldn't resist delving into Princess Tutu fic for Yuletide again, and QUACK QUACK ROBOT.

meiface, being magic, guessed both of these fics, so expect something in your mail soon! :DDDD

Back in Toronto for the holidays! It's been a busy season -- a busy year, if we want to get technical about it, what with graduating and moving out west and then (two weeks ago) getting promoted to a full-time permanent librarian, hooray hooray. (Which means, of course, that my mother immediately skyped in and said to me, "Now that you've got your career nailed down, it's time to think about finding a boy and starting your family." Words to make me break out in hives, those).

I think it's a really great feeling, in the mornings when the sunlight is peeling into my eyes as I sit on the bus, my ipod plugged into my ears, coffee warming the dry skin of my hands -- I think it's a really great feeling, to love what you do for a living, to be happy to be there every day. I feel lucky.

My new job isn't perfect, oh god no. There have been some budgeting issues and bureaucracy with my hours that have made me rage. Sometimes you do what you love, and sometimes you do what you gotta. Next year, one of the librarians in my department is retiring, and unless I make a dick of things, they'll probably offer me her permanent job. It's just a waiting game.

1. Yes, be very afraid: I am now joining the ranks of the professionally employed. Long story short: I graduated with my library science degree in April, wallowed in unhappiness for a while because omg no one is hiring, I am a failure, etc, and managed to snag one interview, which magically turned into one job offer! So this story has a happy ending. I am now the newest librarian at a major public library system in western Canada!! *___*

This does mean I'll have to move, but fortunately I have friends and family in the city. I've already gotten permission to rent a room in someone's basement until I find my own place, yayyyy.

2. Summertime means books and lemonade, and I really want to rec Siddhartha Mukherjee's The Emperor of all Maladies: A Biography of Cancer, which is a dense but eloquent history of cancer both in terms of biology and society. ( Also, a huge huge rec for... )

Remix reveals are up! and now I know that and we'll never be lonely anymore was written by the lovely duckgirlie. ♥ 'My Big, Fat Slightly Annoying Wedding' (the original fic) was totally not a fic I would have anticipated being picked, but that's the beauty of remix, seeing how someone else's brain works tinkering with your stories. And what a brain indeed.

As for what I wrote, I can tell you I had one fic for the main collection and two for Remix Madness.

My assignment fic was Be No Stranger (All Your Saints and Soldiers Remix), which was Steve/Tony for the Avengers fandom and a remix of gyzym's it should follow you know this (like the panels of a comic strip).

I have managed, in the past two weeks, to break both my netbook and my ereader. The first by having a water bottle leak in my backpack, the second by having it fall on the floor and then accidentally stepping on it in the dark.

March is already beginning with rage, frustration, and social anxiety. I really didn't need this.

Coincidentally, I have become the sort of person who waits outside liquor stores at opening hour (in my own defense, I just happened to be in the neighbourhood. Erm, yes).

2. I saw Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I enjoyed it a lot, but my inability to keep track of people's faces meant the plot pretty much sent me into the Land of Confusion. No, seriously. I am awful with faces. It took me half an hour into the movie before I realized why Guillam looked so familiar. All the while I was wondering when Benedict Cumberbatch was going to show up in the movie. /headdesk
